In this episode of Team Friendship Reads the Newberys, we discuss the 1963 Newbery medal winner A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. Banning books – this book has been banned over the years in many libraries for (in our opinion) silly reasons. Lauren has no idea why she has never read this book until now because it was right up her incredibly nerdy alley. What is the deal with Charles Wallace??? Meg irritated Leah. We get nerdy with our discussion of the tesseract. We compare the dystopian society on Camazotz in this book with that of other books such as The Hunger Games and The Giver, and we may or may not get a bit theological during this discussion. Is “conformity” the real enemy in this book? Aunt Beast – a female Chewbacca with four arms and no eyes. So many Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings references! What is the Dark Thing, and did Meg defeat IT or just rescue Charles Wallace from IT? We need answers!!!
We discuss the trailer for Disney’s film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time set to release in theaters in 2018.
Mandy announces our book for next month! Listen to find out what it is! (Or wait a few days and we will post it on social media.)
